Calmo — sound insulation through mass

Building with Calmo bricks guarantees acoustic comfort and increases living quality. Solid masonry construction with bricks has clear advantages over lightweight construction: single- or multi-leaf brick walls protect against noise from inside and outside, as the sound insulation of a wall is determined by its weight and structural design.

The sound-insulating bricks of the Calmo series offer outstanding sound insulation values — whether as exterior masonry to protect against ambient noise, or as interior masonry to quietly isolate homes from one another. Available in masonry widths of 12.5, 15, 17.5 and 20 cm.

The Calmo is the sound-insulating brick from Ziegelei Schumacher AG. Its high gross density of 1200–1300 kg/m³ makes it an effective sound-insulation element in masonry construction. Unlike lightweight insulating bricks, the Calmo relies on the mass principle: the heavier the wall, the less sound is transmitted.

It is used for partition walls between residential units, stairwell cores and exterior walls in noise-exposed locations.

Protection from noise without composite constructions

Sound-insulating bricks with increased density effectively reduce sound transmission between residential units and to the outside — without composite constructions or facing shells. This simplifies the wall structure and avoids weak points that can arise with multi-leaf constructions.

The Calmo is a pure clay product — mineral, non-combustible (Euroclass A1) and free of substances of health concern. Its high compressive strength of 28 N/mm² also allows use in structurally loaded partition walls.
