Company

Since 1860 in Körbligen.

Natural, resource-conscious bricks — understood through craftsmanship, fired in Switzerland.

History

Over 160 years of clay and fire.

Ziegelei Schumacher AG was founded in 1860 in Körbligen near Gisikon. What began as a craft brickworks has grown, over six generations, into one of the few Swiss brickworks still active today — with its own clay extraction, production and distribution.

The raw material still comes today from the company's own Pfaffwil pit, right next to the factory. Clay and loam are extracted there and taken directly into production — the shortest possible transport routes, a regional cycle.

A distinctive feature: the raw material is still transported from the pit to the factory today by a historic narrow-gauge railway that the brickworks has operated for decades. This railway is considered one of the last of its kind still in industrial use in Switzerland. It embodies the company's philosophy: keep doing what works.

Kurt Schumacher now runs the company as managing director and owner, continuing the family tradition. The production facilities are continuously modernised, while the raw material and location remain the same as 160 years ago.

Production

Made in Switzerland — from clay to finished brick.

All Ziegelei Schumacher AG products are fired from its own Swiss clay. From preparing the raw material through shaping to firing in the tunnel kiln — every step takes place in Körbligen.

The product range includes standard bricks in the SwissModul format, insulating bricks (MONOBRICK ZSK), sound-insulating bricks (Calmo), reinforced and earthquake-resistant masonry (Armo), facing bricks, roof tiles and wine storage systems.

Continuous product development is a core principle of the company. The MONOBRICK ZSK was created as an insulating brick with thermally optimised slotted perforation, enabling monolithic masonry without additional polystyrene insulation.

All products are CE-certified per EN 771-1 and supplied with complete declarations of performance. Minergie, Minergie-Eco and eco-bau certifications confirm the ecological quality of the range.
